Jacob received a first place award for this painting, "The Matterhorn of Switzerland", at LARAC's 120 Degrees Intercollegiate Art Competition at Lapham Gallery.
***GOOD NEWS! Jacob won an award at LARAC's "Realism vs Abstraction" Juried Exhibit at Lapham Gallery in Glens Falls for his painting entitled, "Lovable Vermont". The show was judged by guest juror Elizabeth Dubben of Saratoga Arts.
Special thanks to Chelsie Henderson of the Schuylerville Small Business Association for using Jacob Houston Art on posters and publicity for the "1st Annual Schuylerville Fall Festival: Turning Leaves at the Turning Point" in October. The day was a great success thanks to Chelsie and other organizers.

Good news! Both of the artwork pieces that Jacob entered in The Artist's Magazine's 31st Annual Art Competition were selected as finalists in the landscape category. The artwork pieces that received the award were "The Countryside" and "Frosty Night on Phila Street". Over 7,500 entries were submitted for this contest from around the world.
We can now add Michigan, Ohio, and Maryland ! These are the places where Jacob's art now hangs- 27 different states so far. His goal is to hit all 50... he also has art in Norway, England, France, and Germany. It is a big world, so he'll keep painting...

Jacob was accepted by the Jury of Selection to be included in the 63rd annual National Juried Exhibition of the National Society of Painters in Casein & Acrylic at the Salmagundi Club in Manhattan, 47 Fifth Avenue. The Exhibition was open June 26 through July 14th, 2017. At the Presentation of Awards Ceremony on Friday, July 14th, Jacob's recent painting, "Greenwich Lighted Tractor Parade" won the Winsor & Newton Award. He was happy to bring a taste of our small village to the Big Apple with his tractor parade painting.

For the third year in a row, Jacob has earned the honor of receiving a finalist position in The Artist's Magazine's Annual Art Competition. The magazine's 33rd annual art competition drew more than 7,300 entrants from around the world. Jacob's painting, "London Evening", received this distinction in the landscape category.

"Pop Up Gallery" November 4th and 5th
Meeting so many interesting people at the recent Open Studios Tour led Jake to decide to open up his "Pop Up" Gallery again just in time for people to do some early holiday shopping. Original art, framed prints, prints, note cards, Christmas cards, post cards, and Jacob Houston Art calendars will all be available at this event.

on Saturday, November 4th from 11 am -4 pm and Sunday, November 5th from 11 am - 4 pm.

"Untold Stories of the Battenkill"
Elizabeth Cockey has written a wonderful hard cover book that highlights the Battenkill watershed, entitled"Untold Stories of the Battenkill". To celebrate the book's release, she will be curating a traveling art exhibition of the paintings and photography from all of the artists who are included in the publication. Jacob has been fortunate enough to have a couple of his paintings of the Battenkill included in this book, so he will be a part of this traveling exhibit. Art exhibits and book signings will be at the Salem Courthouse on July 6 from 6-8 pm, on August 6 at the Greenwich Library from 4-6 pm, and at the Georgi Museum in Shushan on October 7 from 11-12 pm. Sales of the book and art will benefit the Battenkill Conservancy.

Jacob was invited to his alma mater, Greenwich Central School, as a presenter in the 20th Annual Greenwich Junior High "Career Fair" representing the field of art. He had a great time and was inspired by the strong interest in the arts that many students exhibited as well as their perceptive questions. It was a fun day...here are a couple of pictures.

One of Jacob's favorite places to eat is Steiningers on Main Street in Salem, NY where he gets to see his print, "Tasteful Steiningers" on the wall. His usual order is turkey on croissant followed by a scrumptious fudge topped sundae made with famous Steiningers homemade chocolate. (854-3830)

Houston Hits NYC...
At his high school graduation in June 2011, Jake was honored to receive the Grace Griffis Scholarship. The scholarship is given in memory of Grace, was who was an incredible person and a very gifted artist before her untimely death. Grace's sister, Mackenzie, and her business partner, Kate, have written a wonderful article about the scholarship on their website, "The Official Meatbagz Blog". In the "Open Studio Tour of Washington County":
Jacob Houston Art took part in the "Open Studios Tour of Washington County" for the first time. This juried biennial event, which was established in 2005, showcased 20 professional fine artists of Washington County. Five successful tours began in 2007, and the event was expanded this year to take place over a four day period from July 13- 16, 2017 (Thursday- Sunday). Jacob thanks all of the visitors to his "pop up" gallery. It was a wonderful experience that he hopes to repeat in the future.
